Volunteer Adult English Teacher Certification

Volunteer Adult English Teacher Certification Course
(Also known as English as a Second Language - ESL)
When: Friday & Saturday   Dates: TBA (1st Quarter 2024)
Time: Friday - 5:45 p.m. - 9 p.m.; Saturday - 7:45 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Cost: $55 - includes book, classroom materials, snacks and 2 meals

This two-day Adult English Teacher Certification Course is for church-based ministry leaders, teachers, and volunteers. This certification is authorized by the North American Mission Board (NAMB) and is nationally and internationally recognized.

Please note:
- this training teaches volunteers how to lead an adult English language learning class (it does not certify for teaching in the public school system).
- participants do not need to be able to speak a foreign language to attend the training.
- this faith-based class offers training on how to teach English while incorporating the Gospel; there are no educational pre-requisites.

 
Instructor: Susan Bell, instructor at Carson-Newman University's English Language Institute and North American Mission Board (NAMB) Certified Trainer
 
Course Outline:
  • How to organize a church-based Adult English program ministry
  • How to determine a student's fluency for appropriate placement
  • How to plan and present a basic English lesson
  • Basic language teaching techniques and resources (communication activities, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc.)
  • How to incorporate biblical material in your class
  • How to address cultural misunderstandings
  • How to share your faith in Christ
